
Credit Repair: How you can do it
If you have a poor credit score then it can stop you from getting easy credit. With a bad credit history, there is no surety that you will be able to collect funds on urgent requirement. So, if you hold a credit score which is not that impressive, you should try to improve that. For securing easy credit in future you should consider credit repair.
For credit repair you can hire a credit repair company or can do it on your own. If you don’t want to involve any third party in the process of your credit repair, then you should proceed through the following steps:
- Before you start repairing your credit, you should have a clear idea about the inaccurate information and the negative items that are present in your credit report. So, at first you need to have copies of your credit reports from the three major credit bureaus.
- Once you receive the copies of your credit reports, go through them carefully. Sort out the inaccurate items, charged off accounts and accounts that have balances above the credit limit.
- In order to correct the erroneous information, you should notify the credit bureau about the inaccurate information by sending a letter. It is better to attach a copy of your credit report along with the letter after highlighting the inaccurate information.
- In order repair your credit you should pay off your past due accounts and try so that they do not become charged-off. You also need to pay off your charged off accounts.
- You can also try to negotiate with the collection agencies or the debt collectors in order to settle your collection accounts.
- Try to bring the balance of your maxed out accounts below the credit limit. Once that is done, work towards paying the balances in full.
- After successfully resolving the negative items of your credit report, you should try to add some positive points. If you have any credit account which you have always paid on time, then continue to keep it in that way. You can also try to open a new credit account and stay current with it in order to create a good credit history.
